A message from Piggy

Since launching the Piggy Bankrupt website in late 2006, I have received e-mails of varying nature. Some of thanks, some of distress and cries for help.

Having experienced bankruptcy during a difficult time of my life, I do understand how debt can affect one emotionally.

For me, the key was speaking to people and seeking advice. Debt is a problem that can be solved. If there is one thing I have realised, in the UK you are certainly not alone - no matter whom you are or how big your problem.

If you are worried or distressed, try speaking to a friend or family member. Alternatively, please feel free to ask me any question you like. If I am unable to help, I will certainly point you in the right direction. Ask Piggy.

Sometimes, speaking to your family and friends may not be enough or simply just not possible. If you feel as though you need further emotional support or just need to speak to someone different, you may feel an organisation such as the Samaritans could help.

How can The Samaritans help?

Being in debt you may experience feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. This is nothing to be ashamed of. The financial pressures of the world we live in can put an enormous emotional strain upon our family and us.

If you have experienced some of these feelings and want someone besides a friend or family member to speak to, the Samaritans can help.

They are available 24 hours a day to provide emotional support in a confidential capacity.

They firmly believe that being listened to, in confidence and accepted without prejudice, can alleviate feelings of despair and suicide. They believe in the importance of having the opportunity to explore difficult feelings and that everyone has the right to make fundamental decisions about their own life.

If you do wish to contact them, they can be reached by telephone, letter, e-mail and Mincom. There are independent branches throughout the UK, which you can also walk in to and speak to someone.

For more information visit http://www.samaritans.org.uk

Alternatively, you may contact them at:

Or phone your local branch. You can find their details in the phone book, or your telephone operator can put you through.

You can contact them by e-mail at jo@samaritans.org
